Sometimes working with VMware products you'll find yourself with the error:
Failed to lock the file
Most of the times the error appears when the lock file (.lck) is still present when you try to power on the virtual machine. The lock file "tells" the VMware Product that the virtual machine is already running or some of the features (like map the virtual hard drive) are in use.
To solve this unmap the disk or if a disk map is not present browse the directory of the virtual machine and delete the .lck file and then try to power on your virtual machine.
