I am getting several errors while upgradation process. please see the bellow screen shot. VMtools are not getting uninstalled & taking more time to uninstall and finally giving errors as shown in bellow screen shot.
Please help in fixing this issue as those Virtual Machines ae running with critical applications
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I'm planning virtualize a Mail server, this mail server storage all users's mail and the users syncronize their mail client software with this server. This mail server is running in Linux (debian). I want to create a vdisk for the OS and other one for the mail storage, it is possible that in the future the mail storage grow up more than 2TB, but I only can create vdisk up to 2TB. In this case, what would you recommend to me? create another vdisk when needed and then extend the partition in the guest OS to the new vdisk?
Thanks and best regards,
Alberto Medina
Dear,
I have tried migrate a vmdk of datastoreA for datastoreB , but isn´t working very well. Show me following error message :
"Unable to access the specified host. IT either does not exist, the server software is not respoding , or there is a network problem "
All datastores are inside storage using iSCSI, the storage is Openfiler, the enviroment is for test only.
The version Vmware is ESX 3.5 with VI 3 .
Somebody have any idea about this issue ?
Thanks

Hi,
Just wanted to check if our setup is optimal.
We have an ESX host with a vSwitch for the production network. The ESX is then connected to 2 physically separate switches with 4 interfaces each on portchannels/etherchannels. There are 2 switches for high availability.
In this setup will there be suboptimal performance accessing the VM's on the ESX?
thanks!
Hi there,
I face some strange issue on one of our ESX Host.
We have http://0.0.0.0 event there is a static IP configuration on our ESX Host.
Everything seems to be okay on the Network: Sysconfig, Network-script, Host, and the Gateway.
I rebooted many time the server and I still have this issue.
Can Somebody can advide me?
Cheers
Hi,
I need to make empty the local Disk for running my test.
How can I use dd command to empty the disk?
Your reply will be highly appreciated.
thanks,
I have just installed a new iSCSI SAN and have an ESXi 4.1 embedded box connected to it fine. I want to move all of my VMs over to the 4.1 box before upgrading the 3.5 box to 4.1, then upgrade both to ESXi 5. I installed an X520DA iSCSI initiator in the 3.5 box (Dell PE R900) and cannot see it under Configuration -> Storage Adapters. I have refreshed multiple times and still don't see the hardware. I have searched the Internet and this site and haven't found anything that has helped. I am hoping that the community can help me with this so I don't have to spend hours using the stand alone converter (don't have vCenter and not likely to get funding for it for a while). Can anyone help me out with this?
Hi all,
Is it possible to copy VMs from a cluster of 4 ESX 3.5 to the hard disk of a standalone ESX 3.5?
If yes, how can i do this?
Hello, I used ghettoVCB-restore to restore a VM and every time when starting a VM I am getting an error "Error loading operating System". Any help will be appreciated.
Hi There!
I have installed a Windows 7 (32 bit) in my VMware ESX Server 3i with Version 3.5.0 and Buildi 207095. The problem is the Network Interface module is present as I see it in the hardware list. But when I boot the VM, there is no detected NIC driver present. I have tried rebooting it for a couple of times as I have encountered in my CentOS VM the same problem but to no avail. Can anyone help me with this?
I would appreciate any opinion about it.
Thank you and God bless!
Hello everyone,
I got an issue with updating ESX 3.5 hosts - the problem is that vCenter Update Manager seems not to be able to check the ESX hosts for installed updates.
My environment:
I'm using vCenter Server 4.1.0 (Build 258902, German-000) to manage two ESXi 4.1 and one ESX 3.5 cluster(s). The ESX 3.5 cluster includes 4 hosts with ESX 3.5.0 (Build 283373).
For deploying updates I'm using Update Manager 4.1 which works fine for my two ESXi 4.1 clusters.
The problem:
It's not possible to update/check the hosts of the ESX 3.5 cluster. VMware Update Manager is configured to download patches for ESX 3.5 - the repository is configured and Update Manager also downloaded patches for ESX 3.5. If I try to validate the compliance of a single host (or the whole cluster) I'll get the following error message:
"Checking (HOSTNAME) for updates not possible"
"Status: Unknown error"
Troubleshooting:
I found the following knowledge base article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1032444&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=278958492&stateId=1%200%20278956864
Checking the host is still not possible - do I have to reboot the ESX host because of the modification of resolv.conf?
Does anybody have a tip for me? I couldn't find a solution for my problem using the search.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Hi,
I have 3 hosts in my cluster and I'm trying to add a 4th. The host I'm trying to add was previously part of the cluster but it was removed a few weeks ago because it was being used someplace else. I've since reinstalled ESX and trying to re-add it to the cluster.
When I try and add an NFS datastore to the host named "NAS-Storage" it is added but automatically renamed to "NAS-Storage (1)", if I try and rename it without the (1) I get an error message.... "The name NAS-Storage already exists". The other 3 hosts are currently connected to the datastore with no problems.
How do I fix this?
I've tried restarting the host, restarting the Infastructure service and renaming the datastore on the other hosts to something else.
Hi Guys,
I currently have an issue with my test environment where, when i click on a VM, the display is moved to the left and is not viewable. In order for me to view the screen properly, i need to select another tab and then back to the console tab but this does not always work the first time and may take a couple of tries before it is realigned properly. This happens to all of the VM's and it is not all the time either.
I am running VMware ESXi 3.5 on a HP ProLiant ML350 G4 with VI Client 2.5
Any feedback is appreciated
Regards,
Is Server 2008R2 supported on ESX 3.5 U3 or do we need to install Update 5?
When upgrading from ESX 3.5 to ESX 4.1 do you need to installed update 5 first?
Thanks
Brent
Dear forums,
Our ESXi 4.0 server recently had a powercut and lost any non-VMWare modifications including the GhettoVCB backup software and configurations which had been running without any problems for many months.
As luck would have it, I had stored the program and configurations in a single folder and copied this folder away from the ESXi host. Using WinSCP, I have re-created the structure within moments but ever since, we've not had a single successful backup of either of the two guest computers.
The backups are saved to a persistently mounted NFS share hosted on FreeNAS on the local network. The NFS share has remounted OK after the reboot as I am able to browse the Datastore via VMware vSphere Client > Configuration > Storage > Datastores. Should I connect into the shell of the ESXi server, I can also CD/LS the remote share with no problems.
To backup the guest machines, I use the following configuration:-
Please note that each machine has it's own 'sh' script which is called by CRON (at different times). For the purposes of the example below, I am using the guest "Server 1" as an example ...
At 3AM, CRON runs /backup/s1.sh
/backup/s1.sh has a single line:-
/backup/ghettoVCB.sh -f /backup/server1.list -c /backup -l /vmfs/volumes/server1/$(date +%F_%H-%M-%S).log
/backup/server1.list also has a single line:-
Server 1
Within the /backup folder, there is a configuration file named "Server 1", this has the following elements defined:-
VM_BACKUP_VOLUME=/vmfs/volumes/server1
DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT=thin
VM_BACKUP_ROTATION_COUNT=3
POWER_VM_DOWN_BEFORE_BACKUP=0
ENABLE_HARD_POWER_OFF=0
ITER_TO_WAIT_SHUTDOWN=3
POWER_DOWN_TIMEOUT=5
ENABLE_COMPRESSION=0
VM_SNAPSHOT_MEMORY=0
VM_SNAPSHOT_QUIESCE=0
ENABLE_NON_PERSISTENT_NFS=0
SNAPSHOT_TIMEOUT=15
EMAIL_LOG=0
Running /backup/ghettoVCB.sh -f /backup/server1.list -c /backup -l /vmfs/volumes/server1/$(date +%F_%H-%M-%S).log -d dryrun results in no errors being reported. However, if I remove the "-d dryrun" (as if I were to run for real), the system errors "Invalid adaptor type" shortly after trying to create the snapshot.
I have gone into the vSphere client and been able to create a snapshot manually so I don't think it's the ESXi host that's having the problem; please can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how I can resolve this problem?
Facing a interesting problem.
Scenario:
One 3.5 ESX host have 2 Nic (vmnic0 & vmnic1) associated with service console.
If the service console is connected vmnic 0 , I can able to do ssh to host & connect the host using viclient. But can’t able to add the host to vcenter.
If I remove vmnic0 use vmnic 1,I can able to add manage the host using vcenter.
Currently the host is running with one Nic ( ie vmnic1) The moment I add the other Nic the problem occurs.
Can anybody help?
Thanks

Hi Guys,
I have two virtual disks assigned to a VM the second disk 300GB has two partitions G:200GB 99% used and H:100GB 84% used as you can see I’m running out of space on G: drive so I increased the disk size to 400GB.
I’m using dell extpart to expand the partition I get an error "unable to extend c drive check disk for sufficient space etc." even though I can see the 100GB unallocated space on disk 2.
I tried to expand H drive it worked fine anyone came across this issue in the past if so how did you resolve it thanks in advance.
I’m running MS server 2003
can this be done from esxi server?
I have a physical nic on the server tied to vswitch0 and would like to mirror this traffic to a VM guest on that same server.
How can this be done?
